چکیده

A standard bridge between automata theory and logic is provided by the notion of characteristic formula. This paper investigates this problem for the class of event-recording automata (ERA), a subclass of timed automata in which clocks are associated with actions and that enjoys very good closure properties (complementation, determinization...). We first study the problem of expressing characteristic formulae for ERA in Event-Recording Logic (ERL), a logic introduced by Sorea to express event-based timed specifications. We prove that the construction proposed by Sorea for ERA without invariants is false. More generally, we prove that bisimulation can not be expressed in ERL for the class of ERA, even without invariants. Then, we introduce the logic WTμ, a new logic for event-based timed specifications, closer to the timed logic Lν . We prove that it is strictly more expressive than ERL, and that its model-checking problem against ERA is EXPTIME-complete. Finally, we provide constructions for characterizing ERA up to timed (bi)similarity and study the complexity issues.

Interval Duration Logic: Expressiveness and Decidability

We investigate a variant of dense-time Duration Calculus which permits model checking using timed/hybrid automata. We define a variant of the Duration Calculus, called Interval Duration Logic, (IDL), whose models are timed state sequences [1]. A subset LIDL of IDL consisting only of located time constraints is presented. As our main result, we show that the models of an LIDL formula can be capt...

Event-Clock Automata: A Determinizable Class of Timed Automata

We introduce event-recording automata. An event-recording automaton is a timed automaton that contains, for every event a, a clock that records the time of the last occurrence of a. The class of event-recording automata is, on one hand, expressive enough to model ( nite) timed transition systems and, on the other hand, determinizable and closed under all boolean operations. As a result, the lan...

Using Interval Petri Nets and Timed Automata for Diagnosis of Discrete Event Systems (DES)

A discrete event system (DES) is a dynamic system that evolves in accordance with the abrupt occurrence, at possibly unknown irregular intervals, of physical events. Because of the special nature of these systems, different tools are currently used for their analysis, design and modeling. The main focus of this paper is the presentation of a new modeling approach of Discrete Event Systems. The ...

Characteristic Formulae: From Automata to Logic

This paper discusses the classic notion of characteristic formulae for processes using variations on Hennessy-Milner logic as the underlying logical specification language. It is shown how to characterize logically (states of) finite labelled transition systems modulo bisimilarity using a single formula in Hennessy-Milner logic with recursion. Moreover, characteristic formulae for timed automat...

A General Framework for Probabilistic Characterizing Formulae

Recently, a general framework on characteristic formulae was proposed by Aceto et al. It offers a simple theory that allows one to easily obtain characteristic formulae of many non-probabilistic behavioral relations. Our paper studies their techniques in a probabilistic setting. We provide a general method for determining characteristic formulae of behavioral relations for probabilistic automat...
